The policy paper, crafted by the United Nations Interdepartmental Task Force on African Affairs, outlines Africa's roadmap toward a unified and sustainable digital future through the establishment of a Digital Single Market (DSM). Digital Public Infrastructure: Developing robust digital frameworks, including digital identities, payment systems, and data exchanges, to streamline societal functions and services.
Digital Government: Improving public service delivery through digital transformation, fostering transparency, reducing corruption, and promoting inclusivity.
Cross-Border Data Flows and Digital Trade: Facilitating seamless data exchanges to boost e-commerce, regional integration, and innovation.
Interoperability of Payment Systems: Enabling unified digital payment mechanisms across African countries to support economic activity and reduce transaction costs.

Key Strategic Insights and Challenges
Africa has made significant progress in mobile connectivity, digital payments, and e-commerce, contributing up to $300 billion to the continent's GDP by 2025. However, challenges such as uneven infrastructure, regulatory fragmentation, and the digital divide hinder full integration. Addressing these gaps requires investments in secure and interoperable systems, data governance, and inclusive digital government initiatives.
